How the trip runs

  1. Morning

    Up onto the plateau

About 45 minutes to an hour from Pakse on a paved road to the first falls.

  2. Late morning

    Tad Fane and Tad Yuang

The twin drop of Tad Fane from the viewpoint, then the walk down to the pool below Tad Yuang.

  3. Midday

    Coffee and Paksong

A stop at a coffee farm and lunch in the market town of Paksong.

  4. Afternoon

    Another fall, then back

Time for a quieter waterfall nearby, then the drive back to Pakse.

Why a private car

The Bolaven Plateau is usually toured on a rented scooter, and travel guides note there are few alternatives. The main falls are close to Pakse, though, which makes a private day by car simple. You decide how long to stay at each fall and where to eat, and there is room for luggage if you continue elsewhere afterwards.

Making it more than a day

If you want Tad Lo, villages or simply quieter evenings on the plateau, turn it into two days with a night in Paksong or at Tad Lo. The southern Laos itinerary shows how that fits with Champasak and the islands.

Questions travelers ask

Can we add Tad Lo?

Tad Lo is further north, so adding it makes a long day. Many travelers instead stay a night at Tad Lo and return the next day, or continue to Champasak.

Is a shared tour cheaper?

Usually, per person. A shared tour suits solo travelers happy with fixed stops. A private car suits couples, families and small groups who want their own timing.
