Short trips
Laos when you are short on time
If you have a week or less in Laos, focus on one region and use the fastest links: train, domestic flights and a driver for slow legs. What fits in four to seven days.

In short
With a week or less, choose one region and use the fastest transport for each leg. Kong Lor and Thakhek fit in four days from Vientiane with a driver; Nong Khiaw and Muang Ngoi in five from Luang Prabang; the far south in six to eight from Pakse.
Pick one region
Laos rewards depth over coverage. In a short trip, one cluster done well beats three done in a rush:
- Four days: Thakhek and Kong Lor from Vientiane, with a driver.
- Five days: Nong Khiaw and Muang Ngoi from Luang Prabang.
- Six to eight days: southern Laos from Pakse.
Use the fast links
Take the train between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, fly to Pakse rather than driving, and use a driver where buses would cost you a day.
Protect your departure
Do not plan a long road or boat leg on the same day as an international flight. Spend the last night near your airport or station.
Tell us where you want to go, not how to get there
Share your dates, the places on your list and how you feel about motorbikes. We reply by email with a realistic route, and when you are ready, a written proposal with transfers, prices, inclusions and who provides each part of the trip.
